PATH DESCRIPTION
CLICK FOR DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Gladiator – UTVV 60 km route begins in the centre of Ajdovščina and follows the paved path along the Hubelj River towards the southern wine-growing hills. It then ascends from Dolenje, passing the scenic church of Sv. Marjeta, climbs to the Planina plateau, passing the Guerila estate. The route then descends to the village of Slap and continues with a gentle ascent, passing through Lože (the 1st aid station), the picturesque Goče, and finally reaching Podraga.
The first serious ascent of Socerb prepares the runners for the famous 1,000-meter climb to the top of Nanos (1,262 m) – the 3rd aid station, after stopping in Podnanos (the 2nd aid station). Then, the route descends through the heart of Nanos, passing the Abram Tourist Farm and the chapel above Plaz, before reaching the valley. Runners are welcomed by a well-stocked aid station on the Main Square in Vipava (the 4th aid station).
After a short flat section, the trail ascends past the village of Budanje and crosses the southern slopes of Angelska Gora along a paved Roman path. It enters Ajdovščina at the famous Hubelj spring and continues towards the finish line in the town centre.
The UTVV ultramarathon challenge takes place in the valley where one of the most important battles of the late Roman period occurred. This battle, known as the Battle of the Frigidus, happened in 394. It was fought between the army of the Eastern Emperor Theodosius I and the army of the Western Roman ruler Eugenius. Theodosius’ victory united the Roman Empire under one emperor for the last time in history and solidified the dominance of Christianity in Europe.

TESTIMONIALS
To me, UTVV has been a dive into love for Vipava people and nature. Every kilometer we have been surrounded by support and enthusiasm from all the volunteers, the spectators, the children and the families on the road from the start to the finish line. This spirit of kindness and celebration has been so touching that I’ve been breathing it for a long time after the race! Hvala lepa!
This was my second time at UTVV, and once again it confirmed for me that this race has a truly magical atmosphere. Beautiful nature, challenging trails, amazing people, and fantastic volunteers create an experience that stays in your mind long after the finish line. The very warm weather made this year especially tough, but that is part of ultra trail racing. One moment I will never forget was climbing through the long tunnel with a headlamp on – it felt almost surreal. I was happy to finish under 20 hours, although 4th place is always a little bit bittersweet 🙂. I also really appreciated the opportunity to be part of the VIP group and would like to thank the whole organising team for their hospitality and energy. It makes me happy to see more and more athletes from the Czechia joining UTVV every year. I truly hope to come back again in the future.
UTVV represents the true spirit of old-school ultras, a race that care about runners and every small detail. A demanding but stunning course, with a huge variety of terrain, that really allow you to show yourself what you’re capable of. This year I didn’t fight like a true warrior and my race ended far earlier than I wanted, but that’s part of the journey too… and I will come back to challenge myself again.
