TRAIL DESCRIPTION
CLICK FOR DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Castra Run – UTVV 10 km starts from Ajdovščina and leads towards the villages of Plače and Ustje (refreshment point), where it crosses the Vipava River. The route follows the Vipava River and crosses it again over the Napoleon Bridge in Dolenje, where it connects with the longest distances and finishes in Ajdovščina. This playful and easy route of less than 200 vertical metres is suitable for all trail running beginners.
The UTVV challenge takes place in the valley where one of the most important battles of the late Roman period occurred. This battle, known as the Battle of the Frigidus, happened in 394. It was fought between the army of the Eastern Emperor Theodosius I and the army of the Western Roman ruler Eugenius. Theodosius’ victory united the Roman Empire under one emperor for the last time in history and solidified the dominance of Christianity in Europe.

TESTIMONIALS
I have one really powerful and unforgettable memory from the race. At around the 20-kilometre mark, I met an older gentleman who gave me a four-leaf clover and encouraged me to keep running, saying, “You are great”. For the next few kilometres, I wondered whether I had dreamed it or if it had really happened. In the end, I finished in the first place overall, so I believe that this four-leaf clover really brought me luck!
This race is truly one of the best-organised races I have ever been to. I absolutely love the atmosphere of the race. All the volunteers and people living in the surrounding villages are so kind. It is incredibly encouraging during the race and adds to the wonderful atmosphere.
If you want to enjoy beautiful nature and the route, I highly recommend this Slovenian race. The race has great facilities, including showers, plenty of food, and helpful people. I will definitely be coming back here regularly.
I think the most distinctive thing, the thing that brightened that long and tough day the most, was the party organised by the volunteers at the Mala Gora aid station, with music, an accordion, and chocolate crepes. I wanted to stay there!
I should also add that the entire race organisation far surpasses many international races. They take care of every detail, and the runners notice and feel looked after before, during, and after the race.
Thank you for welcoming us all so warmly!
