UTVV I FEEL SLOVENIA – REGULATIONS & ORGANIZATION

ORGANISERS

UTVV I Feel Slovenia is organised by Alpe Adria Adventurers d.o.o. in collaboration with the Sports Club Ultra Trail Slovenia.
The event is supported by public institutions, including:

  • Slovenian Tourist Board
  • Institute for Tourism in Nova Gorica and Vipava Valley
  • Tourist Board Miren-Kras
  • The municipalities of Ajdovščina, Vipava, Nova Gorica, Miren-Kostanjevica, and Gorizia

ABOUT THE EVENT

UTVV I Feel Slovenia features six single-stage trail races and one non-competitive hiking and winetasting tour, all held in the beautiful Vipava Valley, Slovenia. The courses traverse hiking trails, gravel roads, and paved roads, forming a circular route around the valley.

Inspired by the Roman heritage of the region, each race is named after a rank or figure from Roman military history. This symbolism reflects the organisers’ belief that (ultra)trail runners embody the spirit of ancient warriors, not in a militaristic sense, but in the mental strength and perseverance required to overcome personal challenges and grow through endurance.

  • Emperor, 160 km long, vertical meters – 6.400, starts from Ajdovščina, semi-autonomy, 46 hrs max, max 200 runners
  • Centurion, 110 km long, vertical meters – 4.500, starts from Ajdovščina, semi-autonomy, 30 hrs max., max 400 runners
  • Gladiator, 60 km long, vertical meters – 2.400, starts from Ajdovščina, semi-autonomy, 16 hrs max, max 500 runners
  • Legionar, 30 km long, vertical meters – 1.600, starts from Ajdovščina, semi-autonomy, no time limits, max 800 runners

RUNNER’S COMMITMENT

Participation in UTVV I Feel Slovenia—especially in the Emperor 160 km and Centurion 110 km races—requires a clear understanding of the challenges involved and a strong sense of personal responsibility. By registering, each runner confirms the following:

  1. Awareness & Preparation
You are fully aware of the race distance, terrain, and demands, and are physically and mentally prepared to take part.
  2. Experience & Autonomy in Mountain Terrain
You have prior experience in trail or mountain running and are capable of independently handling unexpected situations, such as:
    – Adverse weather conditions at altitude (night, darkness, wind, cold, fog, rain, snow or extreme heat).
    – Physical or mental challenges (fatigue, digestion issues, muscle or joint pain, minor injuries), even in isolated areas.
  3. Self-Sufficiency
You understand that race organisers do not offer personalised assistance for such issues and that you are responsible for managing them yourself.
  4. Personal Safety
You acknowledge that your safety depends on your ability to assess situations and adapt to changing conditions on the trail.
  5. Support Team Conduct
If you have a support crew, you will ensure they are informed about and committed to respecting nature, local communities, and all race rules.
  6. Staying Informed
You will follow and read all newsletters and official communications sent out before the event, as they contain essential updates and instructions.

SEMI-AUTONOMY REQUIREMENTS

All UTVV I Feel Slovenia races are held as single-stage, individually paced events under semi-autonomous conditions. This means runners must be self-reliant between two aid stations—able to independently manage food, hydration, clothing, and safety in response to any expected or unexpected situations, including bad weather, fatigue, or injury.

Please carefully follow these key rules:

  1. Mandatory Equipment
All runners must carry the full list of mandatory gear (see MANDATORY EQUIPMENT section) throughout the race. Race officials may perform checks at any time. Non-compliance or refusal may result in time penalties or disqualification. Carrying the right gear is essential for your safety and that of others.
  2. Aid Station Use
Aid stations are designed to provide food and drinks for immediate consumption. Water, isotonic drinks, and soft drinks will be available for bottle or hydration pack refills. Before leaving a station, make sure you have enough supplies to reach the next one.
  3. Support Regulations
Personal support is allowed only at the official aid stations. Assistance from medical professionals or external experts is not permitted unless authorised by race officials.
  4. No External Pacing
Runners may not be accompanied by non-registered individuals on any part of the course, except at the official aid stations aid stations.

REFRESHMENT & CHECKPOINTS

The trail includes several aid stations and checkpoints. At each aid station, runners can refuel with food and drinks and refill their bottles or hydration packs. Please dispose of all waste only at the designated bins located at these checkpoints and aid stations.

MEDICAL TREATMENT

Medical teams, emergency vehicles, and multiple Mountain Rescue (MRS) units will be present along the trail at all times.

The MRS has the authority to stop the race in case of dangerous conditions, such as severe weather. All runners must follow their instructions without exception.

If medical staff determine that a runner is unfit to continue, they are authorised to withdraw the runner from the race and provide necessary assistance. Failure to comply with medical or safety instructions may result in disqualification.

PHOTO DOCUMENTATION

By participating in the race, runners consent to the use of photos and video footage taken during the event for promotional purposes by the organiser.

p

LIABILITY

Runners acknowledge that they participate in the race at their own risk. The organiser is not liable for any injuries or damage to personal equipment. By entering the race, participants agree to abide by all rules and accept any consequences resulting from non-compliance.

COMPLAINTS

All complaints must be submitted in writing within 30 minutes of the runner’s arrival at the finish line and must be accompanied by a 50 EUR deposit. The Organising Committee jury will review each case and respond as quickly as possible. Their decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Complaints regarding irregularities on the trail must include written documentation along with supporting evidence, such as photographs or statements from at least three witnesses.

The Organising Committee jury includes:

  • The Race Director

  • The Technical Director

  • The Head of the relevant checkpoint or aid station (depending on the complaint)

  • Additional individuals with expertise relevant to the issue, appointed by the race director
h

OFFICIAL RACE GUIDE

The official Race Guide will be published on the website 14 days before the event. In addition, technical instructions will be provided on-site prior to each race start.

DOPING

The use of performance-enhancing substances (doping) is strictly prohibited. The organisation reserves the right to conduct testing and will provide the necessary means and resources to do so.

PENALTIES AND PROHIBITIONS

To ensure fairness and safety, the following rules will be strictly enforced. Penalties or disqualification may be applied immediately or once the infraction is confirmed.

  1. Checkpoint Recording
All runners must be recorded at every checkpoint. Missing a checkpoint or using shortcuts may result in a penalty of up to 2 hours.
  2. Mandatory Equipment
Runners must carry all mandatory equipment and present it upon request. A 30-minute penalty will be applied for each missing item. Failure to show equipment may lead to disqualification.
  3. Littering
Disposing of trash on or near the trail will result in immediate disqualification.
  4. Trail Infractions
Taking shortcuts, leaving the marked route, or entering/exiting a checkpoint or aid station incorrectly will result in a minimum 1-hour penalty per offence.
  5. Unauthorized Transportation
Using any form of transportation during the race will result in immediate and permanent disqualification.
  6. Failure to Assist
Not helping another runner in distress will lead to immediate and permanent disqualification.
  7. Misconduct
Insults or threats toward organisers, volunteers, or staff will result in immediate and permanent disqualification.
  8. Exceeding Time Limits
Continuing to run after exceeding the official time limit will result in disqualification.
  9. Unauthorized Support
Receiving support between official aid stations will result in a minimum of a 1-hour penalty.
  10. Unauthorised Bib Use
For safety and race timing purposes, running under someone else’s name without completing an official transfer is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification.
  11. Failure to Respond to the Organiser’s Phone Call
Participants who do not respond to phone calls from the organiser—especially during critical moments of the race—may be subject to penalties. The severity of the penalty will be determined at the organiser’s discretion based on the context and potential impact on safety or race integrity.
  12. Enforcement
All penalties and disqualifications may be applied on the spot or once verified by race officials.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT

Mandatory Equipment Checks

Mandatory equipment checks may be conducted at the start or any point along the trail. If any item is missing or a competitor fails to present their equipment, a penalty will be applied.
A one-hour time penalty will be added for each item that is missing. Competitors may wear their equipment on them or carry it in a running vest.

In case of adverse weather conditions, the organiser reserves the right to require additional mandatory equipment for safety reasons – referred to as the WINTER KIT (listed below). This decision, if made, will be communicated to all participants no later than one day before the event.
