PATH DESCRIPTION

The Asterix – UTVV 15 km route starts from Ajdovščina and goes towards the villages of Plače and Ustje, crossing the Vipava River. It continues uphill through Tevče and towards the picturesque Planina, where joined to the longest distances, Emperor and Centurion, passes St. Mary’s church, and crosses the Vipava River via the Napoleon bridge in Dolenje before the finish line in Ajdovščina. It’s an easy, playful trail run of less than 300 vertical meters, suitable for beginners in trail running.

The UTVV ultramarathon challenge takes place in the valley where one of the most important battles of the late Roman period occurred. This battle, known as the Battle of the Frigidus, happened in 394. It was fought between the army of the Eastern Emperor Theodosius I and the army of the Western Roman ruler Eugenius. Theodosius’ victory united the Roman Empire under one emperor for the last time in history and solidified the dominance of Christianity in Europe.

TESTIMONIALS

I think the most distinctive thing, the thing that brightened that long and tough day the most, was the party organised by the volunteers at the Mala Gora aid station, with music, an accordion, and chocolate crepes. I wanted to stay there!

I should also add that the entire race organisation far surpasses many international races. They take care of every detail, and the runners notice and feel looked after before, during, and after the race.

Thank you for welcoming us all so warmly!

Júlia Gracia Bonastre, Spain

Centurion, 100km

In 2025, UTVV once again confirmed its reputation as the most spectacular ultra-trail event in the region. Although the event continues to grow each year, the atmosphere on the course remains the same as it was at the very beginning: hospitable locals, dedicated volunteers at the aid stations and along the route, and a professional organizing team that, in cooperation with mountain rescuers and other services, ensures that we feel safe even under the most demanding conditions on this very challenging course.

UTVV seems to me to be the ideal event for anyone who wants to take on the 100-mile distance for the first time.

Anže Sobočan, SIovenia

Emperor, 100 miles

For me, UTVV is an experience, not just a race.

It’s a journey through the Vipava Valley.

The night ascent to Nanos has a special charm—no matter the weather—just like the awakening of the day on Čaven, with views of vineyards and blooming acacias.

The race is just the right size to let you enjoy even the solitary moments on the trails.
