The Centurion – UTVV 110 km route starts at the centre of Ajdovščina. It follows the paved path along the Hubelj River towards the southern wine-growing hills. From Dolenje, it passes the scenic church of Sv. Marjeta, climbs to the Planina plateau, passing the Guerila estate.
The trail descends to the village of Slap and then gently ascends, passing through Lože (the 1st aid station) and the picturesque Goče before gently descending to Podraga. The first significant climb to Socerb prepares the runners for the renowned 1,000-meter ascent to the top of Nanos (1,262 m, the 3rd aid station), which follows after the stop in Podnanos (the 2nd aid station).
After Nanos, the trail descends, passing the Abram Tourist Farm and the chapel above Plaz, and then leads into the valley. Runners will find a well-stocked aid station on the Main Square in Vipava (the 4th aid station). Following a short flat stretch, the race includes a second ascent towards Kovk (961 m). Next, runners will experience one of Slovenia’s most beautiful ridge trails, including the crossing of Angelska Gora (the 5th aid station – Otlica) and the ascent to Čaven (1242 m), followed by a picturesque crossing towards Mala Gora (the 6th aid station) and Kucelj (1237 m).
The final 1000-meter mountain leads the runners to a stunning church perched on a rocky cliff, where the Vitovlje, the 7th aid station, is situated. The route then crosses the valley with the 8th aid station in Batuje and then reconnects with the Emperor route in the village of Preserje, passing through a picturesque vineyard ridge.
The route’s final 20 km follows the stunning Preserje-Planina ridge, descending past Planina village (the 9th aid station) to the finish line in Ajdovščina along the paved path next to the Hubelj River.
The UTVV ultramarathon challenge takes place in the valley where one of the most important battles of the late Roman period occurred. This battle, known as the Battle of the Frigidus, happened in 394. It was fought between the army of the Eastern Emperor Theodosius I and the army of the Western Roman ruler Eugenius. Theodosius’ victory united the Roman Empire under one emperor for the last time in history and solidified the dominance of Christianity in Europe.

TESTIMONIALS
For me, UTVV is an experience, not just a race. It’s a journey through the Vipava Valley. The night ascent to Nanos has a special charm—no matter the weather—just like the awakening of the day on Čaven, with views of vineyards and blooming acacias. The race is just the right size to let you enjoy even the solitary moments on the trails.
I think the most distinctive thing, the thing that brightened that long and tough day the most, was the party organised by the volunteers at the Mala Gora aid station, with music, an accordion, and chocolate crepes. I wanted to stay there! I should also add that the entire race organisation far surpasses many international races. They take care of every detail, and the runners notice and feel looked after before, during, and after the race. Thank you for welcoming us all so warmly!
A couple of days ago, 100km was just a number in my head… Thanks to YOU, dear volunteers and organizers, it is now the most testing activity I’ve done in my life. You were so friendly, kind and helpful along the course. Words are powerless to express my gratitude. Perfect marking, amazing nature, technical race (at least for me). Come on people, try it!
