The Legionar – UTVV 30km course starts from Ajdovščina and passes the spring of the Hubelj River, before making a steep ascent to the top of Podrta Gora (825m) – the 1st aid station, where the route joins the other longer distances and provides runners with stunning views of the Vipava Valley along the 15-kilometer ridge of Angelska Gora (the 2nd aid station in Otlica). After reaching the 3rd aid station, Mala Gora, the Legionar route veers towards the valley and descends 1,000 meters to Lokavec. From there, it continues for another 5 flat kilometres along paved paths next to the Lokavšček stream to the finish line in Ajdovščina.
The UTVV ultramarathon challenge takes place in the valley where one of the most important battles of the late Roman period occurred. This battle, known as the Battle of the Frigidus, happened in 394. It was fought between the army of the Eastern Emperor Theodosius I and the army of the Western Roman ruler Eugenius. Theodosius’ victory united the Roman Empire under one emperor for the last time in history and solidified the dominance of Christianity in Europe.

TESTIMONIALS
It is only right to praise this year’s edition of UTVV 2026. So far, I have taken part four times, and I can say that this one was the best. I would not say that any of the previous editions were bad, but this year came very close to superlatives — before, during, and after the race.
Many people were impressed, both those who came for the first time and those of us who have already been there several times. Even the weather was on our side, despite the heat out on the course, which challenged us quite a bit.
I also want to praise the fact that you took last year’s feedback regarding the prizes into account. The aid stations and volunteers were also excellent — active, dedicated, and helpful, at least from what I saw.
Bravo — keep going in this direction, take good feedback into account, and people will continue coming from near and far :).
On the 100-mile distance, the night views from Nanos never disappoint, with the entire Vipava Valley stretching out below. The ridge towards Otlica and the trails all the way to the end of the descent from Sveta Gora, with so much technical terrain, turn the journey into an unforgettable adventure.
A special charm is added by the excellent organisation and all the volunteers, especially those at the aid stations, who welcome you with every kind of treat, as if you were a family member coming home.
That is why UTVV is, for a trail runner, a true celebration of running, good energy, testing your limits, and sharing the experience with others — an event that deserves to be marked on the calendar as a must-do.
To me, UTVV has been a dive into love for Vipava people and nature. Every kilometer we have been surrounded by support and enthusiasm from all the volunteers, the spectators, the children and the families on the road from the start to the finish line. This spirit of kindness and celebration has been so touching that I’ve been breathing it for a long time after the race! Hvala lepa!
