The Legionar – UTVV 30km course starts from Ajdovščina and passes the spring of the Hubelj River, before making a steep ascent to the top of Podrta Gora (825m) – the 1st aid station, where the route joins the other longer distances and provides runners with stunning views of the Vipava Valley along the 15-kilometer ridge of Angelska Gora (the 2nd aid station in Otlica). After reaching the 3rd aid station, Mala Gora, the Legionar route veers towards the valley and descends 1,000 meters to Lokavec. From there, it continues for another 5 flat kilometres along paved paths next to the Lokavšček stream to the finish line in Ajdovščina.
The UTVV ultramarathon challenge takes place in the valley where one of the most important battles of the late Roman period occurred. This battle, known as the Battle of the Frigidus, happened in 394. It was fought between the army of the Eastern Emperor Theodosius I and the army of the Western Roman ruler Eugenius. Theodosius’ victory united the Roman Empire under one emperor for the last time in history and solidified the dominance of Christianity in Europe.

TESTIMONIALS
Standing at the start line of UTVV is a privilege. Standing at the start line of the Emperor 160 km is a privilege reserved for the few.
The atmosphere is electric, charged with positive energy. The volunteers along the course carry you forward into the next kilometres.
When you receive the ring at the finish line — the symbol of eternity — you are marked forever. The particles unite into a whole. And you return again.
I think the most distinctive thing, the thing that brightened that long and tough day the most, was the party organised by the volunteers at the Mala Gora aid station, with music, an accordion, and chocolate crepes. I wanted to stay there!
I should also add that the entire race organisation far surpasses many international races. They take care of every detail, and the runners notice and feel looked after before, during, and after the race.
Thank you for welcoming us all so warmly!
I have one really powerful and unforgettable memory from the race. At around the 20-kilometre mark, I met an older gentleman who gave me a four-leaf clover and encouraged me to keep running, saying, “You are great”. For the next few kilometres, I wondered whether I had dreamed it or if it had really happened. In the end, I finished in the first place overall, so I believe that this four-leaf clover really brought me luck!
This race is truly one of the best-organised races I have ever been to. I absolutely love the atmosphere of the race. All the volunteers and people living in the surrounding villages are so kind. It is incredibly encouraging during the race and adds to the wonderful atmosphere.
If you want to enjoy beautiful nature and the route, I highly recommend this Slovenian race. The race has great facilities, including showers, plenty of food, and helpful people. I will definitely be coming back here regularly. You guys rock!!!
